Hydrological Estimation
Ilhardt et al.,(2000) recommend using the 50-year flood height as the optimal hydrological descriptor for riparian areas located adjacent to moving watercourses. It is noted, in most cases, the 50-year flood height intersects the first terrace or other upwardly sloping surfaces, and supports the same microclimate and geomorphology as the stream channel.
Multiple 50-year flood height values are calculated using the methodology developed by Masson (2007). The required data is available at USGS National Water Information System Mapper.
